Shading Tips

  • Gallnut, Tara, Myrobalan → ideal tannins for mordanting cellulose before alum

  • Henna & Rhubarb → give soft yellows to browns, shift with pH and modifiers

  • Cutch → warm reddish-browns

  • Pomegranate → golden yellows, moss greens with iron

  • Overdye with indigo → greens, teals, and earthy complex shades
Instructions for Use

Usage & Preparation

  • Use each tannin individually or in combinations for layered effects
  • WOF: Typically 5–20% depending on tannin strength and desired depth
  • Apply as first step for cellulose fibers before mordanting with alum or aluminum acetate
  • All powders are easy to dissolve in hot water and work on both protein and cellulose fibers
  • Supplied in resealable bags for easy use and storage
