Care & Preparation Instructions for Cotton Thread

Before Mordanting and Dyeing: Scouring (Essential for Cotton)

Cotton naturally contains waxes, oils, and spinning residues that block dye absorption. A thorough scour makes all the difference.

  1. Fill a pot with warm water and add pH-neutral soap (or a tiny pinch of soda ash for deeper cleansing).

  2. Submerge the skeins and let them soak for 30–40 minutes.

  3. Rinse until water runs clear.

  4. Gently press out excess water — do not wring, to maintain the twist.

This step ensures the cotton takes the dye evenly and deeply.
Safety & Compliance

Onderhouds- en voorbereidingsinstructies voor linnengaren

Voor het verven: Ontvetten

Om ervoor te zorgen dat het linnen de kleur gelijkmatig opneemt, raden we een milde ontvetting aan vóór het beitsen.

  1. Vul een pan met warm water en voeg een kleine hoeveelheid toe vanmilde, pH-neutrale zeep(of een klein snufje natriumcarbonaat voor zwaar bewerkte vezels).
  2. Dompel de strengen volledig onder en laat ze weken gedurende20–30 minutes.
  3. Spoel totdat het water helder is.
  4. Niet uitwringen; pers het water er voorzichtig uit om te voorkomen dat het garen uitrekt.

Deze eenvoudige stap verwijdert oliën, stof en restanten van het centrifugeren, waardoor de kleurstof consistenter hecht.

Voor het verven: beitsen

Voor plantaardige kleurstoffen geeft linnen het beste resultaat met een eenvoudige aluinbeits.

  1. Bereid een aluinbad voor bij20–25% WOF(gewicht van vezel).
  2. Los het aluin volledig op in heet water voordat je het aan de pot toevoegt.
  3. Voeg de voorgewassen, natte strengen toe en verwarm zachtjes—niet heter dan 80°C—voor ongeveer1 uur.
  4. Laat in het bad afkoelen voor de beste opname.
  5. Spoel lichtjes uit of ga direct verder met verven.

Linnen, net als alle cellulosevezels, heeft baat bij een langzaam, warm looimiddel om de vezels te openen en rijke, gelijkmatige kleur te bevorderen.

Na het verven: verzorgingsinstructies

  • Met de hand voorzichtig in koud water wassen.
  • Gebruik alleen milde, pH-neutrale zeep.
  • Vermijd bleekmiddel, optische witmakers of agressieve wasmiddelen.
  • Pers het water er voorzichtig uit; niet wringen.
  • Plat laten drogen, uit direct zonlicht.
  • Natuurlijk geverfde kleuren kunnen in de loop van de tijd zachter worden of verschuiven — een prachtig, organisch onderdeel van met planten geverfd linnen.
