Care & Preparation Instructions for Silk Thread

Before Dyeing: Scouring (Very Gentle for Silk)

Silk needs only the lightest preparation to maintain its shine and strength.

1. Fill a bowl with warm—not hot—water.

2. Add a few drops of pH-neutral soap (no soda ash; silk is sensitive to alkalinity).

3. Submerge skeins for 10–15 minutes, gently moving them through the water.

4. Rinse in cool water until clear.

5. Press water out gently — never wring or twist.

This preserves the silk’s natural luster and ensures uniform dye uptake.

After Dyeing: Care Instructions

• Hand wash in cool water

• Use mild, pH-neutral soap only

• Avoid friction, wringing, or sudden temperature changes

• Press out water gently and lay flat to dry

• Keep out of direct sunlight, which can weaken silk over time

• Naturally dyed silk develops a soft patina as it ages
