Description
Also known as anar ka chilka (Hindi), anar poochi (Persian), granada (Spanish).
Pomegranate rind has been used as a natural dye across India, Persia, and Southeast Asia for centuries. Rich in ellagic tannins and granatonine, it produces buttery yellows, golden tones, moss greens, and even deep blacks.
Did you know? In traditional Persian carpet dyeing, pomegranate was often combined with turmeric to produce vibrant golden yellows with improved light- and washfastness. The rind’s high tannin content (~18%) also makes it an important ingredient in many dye recipes, strengthening colorfastness when mixed with other dyes.
This dye works beautifully on both protein and cellulose fibers. Pomegranate is highly sustainable, renewable, and CO₂ footprint positive.
