Description

Chalk (Calcium Carbonate)

Traditional dyeing assist, used for centuries to adjust pH and brighten colors in natural dye baths. Chalk is especially helpful when working with madder, cochineal, and other reds and pinks that respond well to a slightly alkaline environment. It can also be used to balance overly acidic dye baths.

Materials & Care

  • Storage: Keep sealed in a cool, dry place.

  • Safety: Non-toxic, but fine powder may irritate lungs. Avoid inhalation.

  • Use: External use only. Not for food, drug, or cosmetic use. Keep out of reach of children.

Instructions for Use

  • Add 1–2 teaspoons per liter of dye bath when working with madder or cochineal to improve clarity and brightness of color.

  • Calcium carbonate be used to neutralize excess acidity in dye baths or water.

  • Always dissolve in a small amount of warm water before adding to the pot for best distribution.
