Description
Merino wool, also known as Etamine de Laine or wool cheesecloth, is a favorite among eco-printers for its ability to take pigments beautifully. Soft, non-itchy, and a joy to work with, this is my personal go-to fabric when working with wool. Its high quality and natural finish make it a versatile and reliable choice for dyeing and botanical printing.
Did you know? Etamine de Laine has been used for centuries in fine European textile traditions, prized for its delicate weave and exceptional dye affinity.
- Takes natural dyes and eco prints exceptionally well.
- Produces rich, luminous tones with alum-mordanted dyes.
- Especially responsive to tannins and anthraquinone dyes (like madder and cochineal).
- Overdye with indigo for layered jewel tones.

This wool fabric is made from Patagonian new wool from South America - where mulesing is not practiced as a result of a lack of insect infestation on sheep. Spinning of the fiber, weaving of the fabric, as well as washing, takes place in Europe.
Additionally, we hereby confirm that during the washing process of our organic wool, there is no use of chemicals normally utilized to avoid a felting process of the fabric.
