Description

Myrobalan Extract is a concentrated tannic extract prepared from the nuts of Terminalia chebula. A classic foundation tannin throughout India, especially in the Himalayan foothills, it yields soft yellows at low concentrations and deeper browns at higher ones. Overdyed with indigo, Myrobalan produces a clear teal, while in combination with iron it shifts to grey and black. The powder is dark gray and dissolves easily in water.

Shading Tips

  • 2% WOF: light yellow tones and basic mordanting base
  • 10% WOF: medium depth of shade, rich yellow
  • 13% WOF: darker browns
  • With iron: grey to black shades
  • Overdyed with indigo: teal hues

 
Instructions for Use

Dissolve powder in warm water before adding to the dyebath.

Maintain temperature around 60–70°C for best uptake.

For mordanting cellulose fibres, use as the first tannin layer before alum.

Experiment with iron modifiers for grey–black tones or indigo overdyes for teals.
