Description
Indigo Shibori & Quilted Wall Hanging
Add-On Textile Residency in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico
March 2 – March 6, 2027
4 Hotel Nights | 3 Teaching Days
Boutique Hotel Casa Angelitos, San Miguel de Allende
This is an in-person add-on residency in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, created especially for participants joining one of the main 5-day textile residencies.
After a full week of color, wool, natural dyes, or botanical printing, this smaller add-on module gives us time to go deeper into indigo, resist work, and the making of a personal quilted textile wall hanging.
Over three teaching days, we will focus on indigo shibori as both a technical practice and a design language. You will learn how to plan resist patterns more intentionally, work with layered indigo applications, and build a textile piece that brings your samples, ideas, and stitched work together into something finished and personal.
In the mornings, we will work with indigo and resist techniques, including:
• Advanced indigo vat preparation and maintenance
• Layered indigo applications
• Japanese shibori techniques, including binding, clamping, and stitched resist
• Structured resist planning
• Building depth and variation through repeated dips
• Working with pattern, rhythm, contrast, and negative space
In the afternoons, we will shift into construction mode and begin transforming our dyed fabrics into individual quilted textile wall hangings.
The afternoon quilted wall hanging sessions will be taught by guest instructor Lesa Lee Dike, who will guide participants through composition, layering, stitching, and finishing.
By the end of this add-on residency, you will leave with:
• A deeper understanding of indigo vat work
• A collection of indigo shibori samples
• Practical experience with several resist techniques
• A personally designed quilted textile wall hanging
• More time in the studio, more time in San Miguel, and a beautiful creative bridge between the main residencies
This module is available only to participants enrolled in one of the main 5-day intensives.

About Casa Angelitos
Casa Angelitos is a privately owned boutique hotel full of Mexican charm. The rooms are individually styled, colorful, and slightly quirky in the best possible way, with textured walls, handcrafted details, and a warm, personal atmosphere.
Our working terrace has sweeping views across San Miguel de Allende, with sunrise and sunset light over the hills becoming part of the rhythm of our days.
Each morning, and on teaching days at lunch, we are served fresh, organic, farm-to-table meals with local produce, thoughtful juices, and seasonal dishes that nourish long studio days without weighing us down.
Accessibility
I care deeply about making my courses accessible, but Mexico is not always easy. San Miguel de Allende is hilly, and Casa Angelitos has stairs and uneven surfaces. If you have mobility concerns, please contact me before booking so we can honestly look together at whether this residency is a good fit for you.
