Care & Preparation Instructions for Cotton Thread

Before Mordanting and Dyeing: Scouring (Essential for Cotton)

Cotton naturally contains waxes, oils, and spinning residues that block dye absorption. A thorough scour makes all the difference.

  1. Fill a pot with warm water and add pH-neutral soap (or a tiny pinch of soda ash for deeper cleansing).

  2. Submerge the skeins and let them soak for 30–40 minutes.

  3. Rinse until water runs clear.

  4. Gently press out excess water — do not wring, to maintain the twist.

This step ensures the cotton takes the dye evenly and deeply.
Safety & Compliance

Instructions d'entretien et de préparation pour le fil de lin

Avant la teinture : dégraissage

Pour garantir que le lin absorbe la couleur de manière uniforme, nous recommandons un dégraissage doux avant le mordançage.

  1. Remplissez une casserole d'eau tiède et ajoutez une petite quantité desavon doux, au pH neutre(ou une toute petite pincée de carbonate de soude pour les fibres fortement traitées).
  2. Plongez complètement les écheveaux et laissez-les tremper pendant20–30 minutes.
  3. Rincer jusqu'à ce que l'eau soit claire.
  4. Ne tordez pas ; pressez doucement l'eau pour éviter d'étirer le fil.

Cette étape simple élimine les huiles, la poussière et les résidus d'essorage, ce qui aide la teinture à se fixer de manière plus homogène.

Avant la teinture: Mordançage

Pour les teintures végétales, le lin donne les meilleurs résultats avec un mordant simple à l'alun.

  1. Préparez un bain d'alun à20–25% WOF(poids de la fibre).
  2. Dissoudre complètement l'alun dans de l'eau chaude avant de l'ajouter à la marmite.
  3. Ajoutez les écheveaux pré-dégraissés et mouillés et chauffez doucement—Ne pas dépasser 80°C—pendant environ1 heure.
  4. Laisser refroidir dans le bain pour une absorption optimale.
  5. Rincer légèrement ou procéder directement à la teinture.

Le lin, comme toutes les fibres cellulosiques, bénéficie d'un mordant tiède et appliqué lentement pour ouvrir les fibres et favoriser une couleur riche et uniforme.

Après la teinture : instructions d'entretien

  • Laver délicatement à la main à l'eau froide.
  • N'utilisez qu'un savon doux et au pH neutre.
  • Évitez l'eau de Javel, les agents azurants ou les détergents agressifs.
  • Presser doucement l'eau ; ne pas essorer.
  • Sécher à plat, à l'abri de la lumière directe du soleil.
  • Les couleurs teintes naturellement peuvent s'estomper ou se modifier avec le temps — une belle caractéristique organique du lin teint aux plantes.
