Description
A luxurious blend of Matka and Bulkul Tassar silk, these scarves have a rustic texture and natural elegance that I love and use a lot. Woven by my trusted artisan team in India, with over half of the spinners and warp-setters being women, each piece is a testament to skill, tradition, and sustainable practice.
The warp is made from millspun Matka silk, while the weft is handspun Bulkul Tassar silk, created from the peduncles of Antheraea paphia (tassar/tussar) cocoons. Unlike mulberry-fed silks, these moths feed on oak leaves, giving the yarn a rich, variegated palette of browns, golds, and creams. The yarn is spun like wool, not reeled, producing a fabric full of character, with flowing colour variations and tactile depth.
These scarves are generous in size, making them versatile as elegant wraps, dye-ready canvases, or cherished natural accessories. Whether kept in their earthy tones or overdyed with natural shades like indigo blue or lac red, they are timeless pieces.
