Description

These super fine cotton scarves are handwoven entirely from handspun yarns. Their lightness makes them perfect as elegant wraps, dye-ready canvases, or simple everyday accessories with timeless charm. Muslin comes from Bengal (present-day Bangladesh and West Bengal, India). The word may derive from Mausulipatan(Masulipatnam, a port city in India) or Mosul in Iraq, where European traders first encountered the cloth.

Each scarf is crafted by expert artisans in India, using a handspun warp and weft at an extraordinarily fine 150 count. In cotton spinning, count refers to the fineness of the yarn — the higher the number, the finer the yarn. At 150 count, this fabric is exceptionally light, soft, and rare.

Finished with delicately rolled fringes, making these scarves requires both skill and patience. Because they are handmade, lengths may vary slightly, adding to their unique character. Before being pressed, they are treated with a traditional rice starch, which should be removed before dyeing or eco-printing. A simple overnight soak in bran water restores the fabric’s natural softness and prepares it for your creative work.
