Description

This lightweight gauze shawl is handwoven in India from 100% pure, bleached flax, a fiber celebrated for its low environmental impact, natural beauty, and durability.

At approximately 70×200 cm (27.5"×78.7"), it’s generous enough to wear as a shawl or scarf, light and breathable for year-round layering. It is a loosely woven fabric with a breathable, open weave.

Linen is one of the most sustainable textiles: it’s made from the flax plant, which grows with minimal water and no need for pesticides. The fiber is fully biodegradable, naturally antibacterial, and thermo-regulating , perfectly cool in summer. With use, it softens into a supple, comforting textile that only improves over time.

This shawl is a perfect canvas for natural dyeing, eco-printing, or botanical contact printing.

Natural Dye Preparation
To ensure optimal dye absorption and fastness, follow these steps:

Scouring:

  • Simmer the shawl in water with 1–2% washing soda (soda ash) or a pH-neutral textile detergent for 1 hour.

  • Rinse thoroughly. You may proceed directly to mordanting while damp.

Mordanting (helps dye bond to the fiber):
• For vibrant results:
Use 5–8% WOF aluminum acetate, soak 1–2 hours, then dry and cure 24–48 hours.
• For richer/deeper tones:
Pre-treat with tannin (e.g., oak gall or tara at 10–15% WOF), rinse, then mordant in 10–15% aluminum sulfate.
Let cure before dyeing.

Care Instructions:
• Hand wash or gentle machine wash with cold water and pH-neutral soap.
• Avoid harsh detergents or bleaches.
• Air dry flat or on a line, away from direct sunlight.
• Iron on medium heat if desired.
• Brush tassels with a soft brush to detangle• Fabric will soften beautifully over time, no fabric softener needed.

Slight variations in weave and texture are part of the beauty of handwoven linen and a testament to its artisan origin.

Slow-made, sustainable, and ready for your creative process.
