Description
Finely ground pure hydrated lime (calcium hydroxide, Ca(OH)₂), packed in a reusable 100 g pouch. Hydrated lime, also called slaked lime, is created by mixing water with calcium oxide (quicklime, CaO) in an exothermic reaction known as slaking.
Did you know? Hydrated lime has been used for centuries in dyeing, construction, papermaking, and even food preparation (like nixtamalization of maize). In natural dyeing, it is indispensable for preparing indigo vats and adjusting pH levels.
Origin: Turkey.
Shading Tips
-
Indigo vats → raises pH to create the alkaline environment indigo needs to reduce
-
With weld or fustic → brightens yellows when water is soft
-
In eco printing → shifts tannins toward greener-brown shades when combined with iron
Chemical formula: Ca(OH)₂
