New in from our incredible Fair Trade weaving cooperative: a beautiful batch of handwoven 100% Kashmiri wool shawls, made by skilled artisans from fine natural wool.
These shawls are quite different from what we usually carry. They are soft, generous, off-white wool shawls in a luxurious 70 × 200 cm size, with a beautiful handmade texture and natural character. The off-white wool makes them a wonderful base for natural dyeing, botanical printing, eco printing, and bundle dyeing.
In the product photos, you can see a sample shawl printed with varied leaves using a logwood blanket, to show how beautifully this wool responds to botanical printing.
Please note that these shawls contain a noticeable amount of natural lanolin. This is normal for this type of wool and gives the shawl its characteristic feel, but for natural dyeing or botanical printing, we recommend washing the shawl thoroughly before mordanting.
Wash the shawl by hand in hand-warm water with a spoonful of dishwashing detergent. Let it soak overnight, then rinse well with cold water.
Repeat this process once more. After the second wash, the rinse water should run clear. Once the shawl is clean, you can continue with your usual mordanting process.
Hand wash only, using a pH-neutral detergent.
Wash at a maximum of 35°C.
Do not machine wash.
